A writer’s life changes when he is taken as a hostage in residence with the mob.
Benny has built himself a nice life, bringing in six figures a month through his emotion app. He is highly intelligent, traditionally as well as socially and emotionally. He attracts the attention of and is visited by a mob boss and is coerced into quickly packing and leaving his home to go live on site with the boss at his estate, in order to help with the bosses emotions. This turns out to be much more of a commitment than either of them had anticipated.
The Oedipeo Tree

Eight creatures of lore live a quiet life in a nearly ancient tree, but their lives are uprooted when their tree starts producing the realm’s most potent energy crystals.
Life is seemingly back to normal weeks after the celebration to turn their tree ancient yielded nothing magical, yet underground, at its roots, one of the residents discovers a rare and valuable heavy resonant crystal. Soon the secret comes out that their tree is producing the realm’s most rare and valuable sources of energy and tech. Newfound wealth leads to in-fighting, protection of their home and resources, and grappling with their new power and responsibility.
